DIY Valentine's Gift: A Jar of Love

I found this card for my boyfriend in Paperchase when their Valentine's range first came out and I bought it straight away because he loves the ocean and whales (and I thought it was really cute). With his card sorted, I just had to decide what present to buy. I thought about my usual go-to gifts: books, stationery, aftershave, posters... What I really wanted to do was make something myself, because I think time and effort are so much more valuable than how much money you spend. So I got a nice little glass jar from Amazon and set to work filling it with love.

I have a drawer filled with art and craft supplies so I found some lovely card in there, cut out a heart, and tied it to the jar with some brown string. I made a hole for the string by poking a sharp pencil through it - I'm not fancy enough for hole punches. I wrote a little message on the back of the heart, too.

To make the little notes to go inside the jar, I drew lines 1.5 inches apart on a piece of A4 paper and then I folded the paper in half and cut the pieces out with my rotary cutter (you can use scissors).

I wrote something I love about my boyfriend and our relationship on each piece of paper, then folded it up and popped it into the jar.

Whenever Geraint feels down or needs some love, he can take a note out of this jar and know how special he is. This was so much fun and really easy to make - it's perfect if you don't have much money to spend on a gift or you just want to give your loved one something a little more sentimental.
