May's #LittleLoves

I've missed doing my Little Loves posts every week now that this is a monthly link-up. I'm actually struggling to remember all the little things that have been making me happy in May. I think I definitely need to keep track of the things I've read and watched throughout the month before I do the next one!

If you read my last blog post, you'll already know that May has been a very busy month for me. I've finished all my Masters assignments, except for the dissertation, and I'm in the process of moving home from university. There are lots of changes happening in my life and I'm feeling excited and a little bit nervous about it all. Though this month has been filled with essay-writing and packing, there has also been lots of sunshine and time spent with friends, which makes me look forward to summer so much.

For one of my MA essays, I decided to research how the original story of Little Red Riding Hood inspired Angela Carter to write 'The Company of Wolves'. I absolutely loved it because I got to read The Bloody Chamber and lots of fairy tales as research. Angela Carter is one of my favourite authors but I'd never read The Bloody Chamber before and I can't believe it took me so long. Her short stories are so captivating.

Trying to remember all the films I've watched this month was no easy task. Me and Geraint are into films in a big way. He has a cinema room in his house, so we watch a film almost every day. I've tried to narrow it down... At the beginning of the month, we went to The Showroom to see Isle of Dogs at long last. I love Wes Anderson's films and this was no exception. We also watched Rango, which I thought was brilliant - though really not a children's film?! The animals were genuinely terrifying. And finally, last night, I watched The Thing for the first time and LOVED it. The practical effects were amazing and that soundtrack. Wow.

I've been getting in the mood for summer days with my forever favourite, Lana Del Rey. I don't think anything reminds me of long hot summers more than listening to her albums on a loop. I've also really got into Hayley Kiyoko after Katy recommended her to me. Her songs are so catchy and perfect for getting ready to in a morning.

I thought I would make lots of things when I was given a month, instead of a week, but the only thing I've 'made' in May is my essays. I feel like this counts though, because I really did put so much work in to get everything done on time.

I've been making an effort to wear more colours and choose clothes that make me feel happy. This t-shirt from TKMaxx was one of my favourite things to wear this month, as well as my pastel pink Vans which always make an appearance when the sun comes out.

and lastly
...I got a job! The biggest thing to happen this month is probably that I had a job interview, and found out the next day that I'd been offered the job. I'm going to be working as a PR Assistant Intern at Girlguiding North West England and I couldn't be happier about it.

What have you been loving this month?

  1. Congratulations on the new job! It sounds like things are pretty busy for you at the moment. I've not read anything by Angela Carter - despite having a degree in English Literature! xx

    1. Thank you! I highly recommend The Bloody Chamber and it's a good place to start with Angela Carter :) xxx

  2. Love that Tshirt, especially paired with that dress - such a fun outfit (especially in the eyes of this tired Mum of three who lives in jeans and plain black tops). Congratulations on getting the job - I hope you enjoy it and settle into your new role quickly.

  3. Huge congratulations on your new job! I hope it's going well.
Loving your outfit, especially the tshirt.
